On the Nimbin Waterfall Adventure, you will spend about 1.5-2 hours in exploring the quirky streets of the famous hippie town of Nimbin. Located 70km west of Byron Bay, nestled in the hinterlands magnificent rolling green hills.
Nimbin became the alternative lifestyle capital we know and love after 1973, when the Aquarius Festival was held in the town. Bringing uni students, practitioners of alternative lifestyles, hippies and party people to the once farming town. The Aquarius Festival was the first event in Australia that sort permission to use the land from the traditional owners and was a significant attempt at reconciliation.
After the festival many of the festival-goers remained in Nimbin in search for the alternative lifestyle, forming communes and other multiple-occupancy communities, some of the first in Australia.
Along with the alternative lifestyle comes many things, but what most people think of when they think of Nimbin is the cannabis culture. Which in NSW and Australia any cultivation, possession or sale is punishable any law. Yet cannabis is still openly bought, sold and consumed.
